Alien Makeup Designs from Guardians Of The Galaxy

These are some really nice behind the scenes photos that show off different alien makeup designs created for Guardians of the Galaxy. You have to love the retro look and feel of this movie and admire all of the practical effects that were used to pull it off. These designs have so much detail!

Dave White, the special effects makeup designer helped to create the designs for Gamora, Drax, Nebula, Yondu, Korath, and other aliens. They are all done practically and are free from modern alien design influences. The end results in the film were simply amazing. You’ll find more at the link.

The Star Wars Prequels From R2-D2’s Perspective

Some people enjoy the Star Wars prequels, while others can’t stand them. One thing is for sure. The prequels show a different point of view compared to the original movies. Speaking of points of view, imagine how different the prequels would be from R2-D2’s point of view.

Artist Chris Gugliotti shows us with this nine panel comic titled “A Certain Point of View.” I would love to see Gugliotti do the original trilogy from R2-D2’s perspective too. R2-D2 has a very unique adventure. The last panel is my favorite.

DC Comics Artists Redesign General Mills Monster Cereals Boxes

We still have a few months to go before Halloween arrives, but it’s getting closer to that magical time of year when General Mills releases its special Halloween-themed cereals. This time it will be different though. The company is teaming up with DC Comics for the box art in a brilliant bit of marketing.

The new boxes will feature redesigns of the cereal mascots by some of the top comic book illustrators. Jim Lee does Boo Berry, Dave Johnson has Franken Berry and Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson do Count Chocula. These cereals will feature limited-edition packaging with the new art work, and comic strips on the back drawn by Brent Schoonover.

Pop Culture Characters Replace Don Draper In These Mad Men Posters

If you watch Mad Men then you are very familiar with the opening to the show. Etsy seller noodlehug was inspired by the show to create these neat posters, with pop culture characters in place of the Mad Man from the intro. We’ve featured this seller’s work before and I have to say, I really like their stuff.

Now we get to see Darth Vader,Boba Fett, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Loki, Spider-Man and others replace Don Draper in these mashups. I’m thinking that these guys would all make an amazing ad agency. They could call it Draper, Vader and Fett. Or maybe Vader, Fett and Sterling. Something like that.

Famous Actors As Marvel Superheroes

These superhero illustrations show us what it would be like if OTHER famous actors were cast as various superheroes. This is the work of French artist Alex Tuis and he proves that he would make a great casting agent. I think we can all agree that Arnold as Collusus when he was younger would have been perfect.

Christopher Walken as Professor X? I think that would be awesome. A younger Rutger Hauer as Thor is also a brilliant choice. I’m not so sure about a few of the others, but they all look fantastic. It is a fun series of “What if…” possibilities.

A Day in the Life of Boba Fett

Behance member Scott Francisco is exploring the blurring of the lines between fantasy and reality in this photography series titled A Day in the Life of a Pop Culture Icon.

Here we see a typical day for Boba Fett. And guess what? It’s pretty much just like a typical day in your life or mine. Of course, some things are made harder by wearing that Mandalorian helmet. Like shaving for example. It’s pretty mundane stuff really, but a fun set of photos nonetheless. I’m guessing that this is his less than adventurous life after the encounter with the Sarlacc Pit.

Beautiful And Retro Silent Running Art Print

Etsy seller handdrawncreative has a super nice and retro hand drawn Silent Running print. It is a limited edition of only 20 prints and he tells me he only has one left.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Douglas Trumbull’s 1972 film featuring Bruce Dern. I know I would love to display this in my man cave. Each print is signed and numbered. For those of you who have never seen the movie. Shame on you. Go do that now.

Doctor Who Inspired Money: Don’t Spend It All In Time And Space

Artist Randi Sparkman created these clever Doctor Who inspired bank notes, which I’m assuming are only printed on Gallifrey. Which is a shame really, because along with the destruction of the home planet of the Time Lords, the currency tanked. Then it was all revived again when all 13 Doctor’s saved the planet, so it’s all good.

This currency features Daleks, the TARDIS, the 9th Doctor and the 10th. As currency goes, this is some of the coolest I have ever seen. I’d love to have a pocket full. It beats plain old galactic credits anyday.

Planet Of The Apes Art By Alex Ross

The latest Planet of the Apes movie has me wanting to watch the old Planet of the Apes movies all over again, but before I do that, I thought I would share this poster art from comic artist Alex Ross. He has created four pieces of poster art inspired by the original Planet of the Apes. These are based on covers of the Boom Studios Comic book Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm. They were available for purchase at San Diego Comic-Con, but you can still buy them here. If any are left.

Each 17 x 22 inch giclee is a limited edition of 168. They will cost $145 each and $195 for #4. Sure, they are a tad expensive, but this is Alex Ross. And apes! Damn dirty apes!

Minimalist GAME OF THRONES Character Art

Whenever a season of Game Of Thrones ends, we are left with a void. And it can only be filled with the start of the next season. Well, to help fill that void while we wait, we can at least have a look at some fan art, while we dream of Westeros.

This set of Game of Thrones character art is the work of Jerry Liu, who happens to be a 2D animator, art director, and designer. Oh, and of course, he is also a Game Of Thrones fan. Obviously. These are minimalist interpretations of our favorite characters. I especially like Jon Snow and Ghost.
