Concept Art From Bryan Singer’s 2001 Battlestar Galactica

Before Ronald D. Moore brought Battlestar Galactica back to life, Bryan Singer almost beat him by a few years. Singer had his new Battlestar Galactica series in development around 2000-2001, but due to the 9/11 tragedy everything stalled and it was sadly never meant to be.

It would have been interesting to see what Singer’s take on the franchise would have been like. We may never be able to see everything, but luckily, we can get some idea, thanks to some concept art that recently appeared online. We can see a more streamlined Viper, some interior sketches of the Galactica and some bulky Cylon designs that look menacing and tough. The art seen here was created by designer Guy Hendrix Dyas. That Viper has some nice curves. Makes me wonder what Galactica herself would have looked like.

Sci-Fi And Superhero Engraved Hobo Nickels

British artist Shaun Hughes has some mad engraving skills. He creates quite a variety of incredible hobo nickels. What you see here is just a small sampling of his work. He has all kinds of creations on his DeviantART gallery.

Even if we could, there’s no way we could spend any of these. They are so beautiful you would just want to keep them. These altered coins look amazing.

The Evolution Of The Dark Knight

It is the Dark Knight’s 75th anniversary. To celebrate, Gulf News has put together a 4-page PDF highlighting the evolution of the dark knight over the years. Batman’s look has changed and evolved over the decades more than people realize. Especially when you take into account that it isn’t just in the comic books. There are the TV shows, movies and even video game versions of the Caped Crusader. Here are 20 of the most iconic, popular and even some of the oddest incarnations of the Batman. Enjoy.

Kansas City, Missouri artist Josh Ln has a fun and creative anatomical illustration series of famous spaceships from science fiction. The series is titled Spaceship Skeletal Surveys and features ships from SciFi films and TV shows. Now you can see what they would look like if they had a skeletal structure.

We have the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars, the Enterprise from Star Trek, the TARDIS from Doctor Who, Firefly and a viper from Battlestar Galactica, all showing off their anatomy. You can order prints and all kinds of apparel with these five designs printed on them from Josh’s Society6 store.

25¢ Wonders: Our Favorite Pop Culture Characters On Kiddie Rides

Some of the art we feature here is mindblowing, inspiring, just beautiful, or just plain fun. I would say that the 25¢ Wonders series from artist Patrick Ballesteros hits all of these notes. These illustrations bring back the fun of being a kid while we watch some of our favorite characters as kids themselves, riding kiddie rides.

They also evoke a nice sense of childhood innocence and wonder. You can’t help but smile as you peek into these scenes, watching characters that we know so well, as cute kids, and wishing we could see the scene unfold, just to see what comes next.

DC Characters With Their Pokemon Equals

Artist and art student Creees Lee loves DC Comics. Also Pokemon. Naturally, he made some super cool mashup illustrations that put them together. These DC Comics characters are all hanging out with their Pokemon equals. I would totally watch a show where the DC Comics characters trained these Pokemon and unleashed them on bad guys.

If you want to own prints you are in luck, since Creees will be selling prints of these for $15 each. You can also get the whole set for $70. So much good art, so little wall space…

Concept Art For The Forbidden Planet Remake That Never Happened

You may not be aware, but back in 1995, Irvin Kershner tried to make a remake of Forbidden Planet. Sadly, the project never happened, but Ralph McQuarrie, John Eaves, Mark McCreery, Syd Mead, and Stan Winston were already doing some work on it. We can take a look at McQuarrie and Mead’s work here.

The McQuarrie concept art has immense sets where the humans are like ants and the Mead art shows off the technology that we would have seen. From what we can see here, this would have been quite the epic. We can only dream about how amazing this stuff would have looked on screen.

Battlestar Galactica 35th Anniversary Art Portfolio by Ralph McQuarrie

Fans of Battlestar Galactica will want to own this Battlestar Galactica 35th Anniversary Art Portfolio by Ralph McQuarrie book. Inside you will be thrilled to find 24 of Ralph’s Original concept paintings of: A fleet of Battlestars, The Cylon assult on Caprica, Baltar brought before the Imperious Leader, The bridge of the Galactica, The Tylioum mines of the insect-like Ovions and many more.

I could get absorbed in this for hours. As with Star Wars, Ralph McQuarrie was instrumental in shaping Battlestar Galactica. Most know that he was involved with Star Wars, but many don’t realize the influence he had with Battlestar.

Your Favorite TV Shows And Movies As Children’s Books

A few weeks ago Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles hosted Storytime, a show of Joey Spiotto’s humorous work. These are kids books that are worthy of any kid’s book collection. Popular movies and TV shows turned into kids books. You can buy prints here.

I especially love the Borg book and the Planet Of The Apes book. Well, I love them all. Can’t pick a favorite. These books would put kids to sleep and fill their heads with all sorts of wonderful adventures. Amazing dreams would follow.
