V – The Visitors Art

I’m a sucker for the original V mini-series. Both of them. The weekly TV show that they tried to launch after? Not so much. The rebooted version? Don’t even get me started. V and V: The Final Battle are among my favorite Sci-Fi series. And I just love this digital art based on the series.

These pieces were done by Deviantart user flavioluccisano and they just blow my mind, capturing the flavor and style of the series perfectly. He needs to do a Visitors comic book so I can just give him my money every month in exchange for more amazing art.

“They Live” On The Streets Of Los Angeles

The subject matter tackled by John Carpenter’s They Live is even more relevant today then it was in 1988. Don’t believe me? Go watch it again. Then look around you. So the timing seems perfect for artists Stephen Zeigler and Calder Greenwood to give downtown residents of Los Angeles a living installation inspired by the classic film.

They influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. THEY LIVE.

A rugged loner (RODDY PIPER) stumbles upon a terrifying discovery: ghoulish creatures are masquerading as humans while they lull the public into submission through subliminal advertising messages. Only specially made sunglasses make the deadly truth visible.

Residents of LA got to see things as if through Roddy Piper’s sunglasses. The normally hidden OBEY, CONSUME and SLEEP signs were in full view. And so was an actor dressed as an alien in a business suit.

Star Wars Characters As Babies: The Diaper Side Of The Force

Korean graphic designer and paper toy artist Jang Suk-Woo created this fun and silly set of illustrations, showing some of the Star Wars characters that we know and love as babies. Hey, you have to start somewhere right? These characters may be cool all grown up, but in the beginning, they needed their diaper changed like everyone else.

For everyone who has ever complained about the prequels, let this be a reminder that it could have been much, much worse. We could have been given three movies of Star Wars Babies. I for one, do not want to see Luke and Darth Vader having a lightsaber duel in a crib.

Plan Your Next Trip With These Retro Sci-Fi Travel Posters

Dean Walton has created some very satisfyingly retro Sci-Fi travel posters that would look at home in any galactic travel agency. You can book a trip to many famous locales, like Vulcan, Pandora, Solaris, New York as seen in The Fifth Element and more.

However, if you find yourself traveling the cosmos, do yourself a favor and don’t forget your Multi-Pass. Also, if we have learned anything from Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, it is this. It might be a good idea to pack a towel. A towel always comes in handy. And no matter where you go, there you are.

DisHollywood: Disney And Hollywood Collide Head On

In this series of superb illustartions, artist José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros takes Disney and Hollywood and lets them share screen time. It is amazing how naturally these characters go with one another and fit right into the other’s world.

Here you will see the Creature from the Black Lagoon with Ariel, Freddy Krueger with Sleeping Beauty, Batman’s Joker threatening to cut off Rapunzel’s hair and more. It makes me wish that we could have brand new versions of all of these movies with Ontiveros directing as well as being in charge of the art. That would be a darker version of Disney that I would like to see.

Star Trek Into Iceland: The Ultimate Cosplay Away Team Adventure

Best away team adventure ever! Take four creative Star Trek fans(Andrew Jason Leung, Ken Lin, Jennifer Puno, and Mike Rousseau), a trip to Iceland and some imagination, and you have an amazing Star Trek themed landing party! Their less than five year mission can viewed on their website, Star Trek Into Iceland.

This is the best geeky use of Iceland’s epic landscapes ever. So beautiful. So geeky. They obviously had a super fun time and it would be a blast to hang out with them. I wouldn’t even care if I drew the red shirt. They are my new heroes.

Monsters And Machines Invade Famous Paintings

German artist and illustrator Oliver Wetter alters old landscapes. Specifically, he adds things like giant kaiju, robots and other pop culture elements. A giant monster is all you need to take a painting from tranquil to terrifying.

In Wetter’s work, danger looms large, ready to shatter the calm and idyllic peace. In most of these works we are seeing the last moment of calm before a horrible storm. In other’s, like AT-AT Among The Sierra Nevada for example, we seem to be seeing a calm aftermath. In this tranquil scene, an abandoned and rusty AT-AT stands gathering moss, the deer at it’s feet drinking carefree.

Gorgeous Edge Of Tomorrow Concept Art

If you haven’t seen Edge of Tomorrow, what are you waiting for? The concept art is every bit as good as the movie. We know this because concept artist Kevin Jenkins just released a whole mess of Edge of Tomorrow concept art.

It shows off the many ways that the mimics could have looked, gives us a bunch of platoon shots, mech suits and more. These images will give you a whole new appreciation of the movie. You can check out more on Kevin’s website.

This Batman, Bane, and Catwoman Art Is Sharp

We have seen Batman and his world re-imagined time and again in many artworks and it never gets old. This set of illustrations from Kate Jones features the Dark Knight, Bane, and Catwoman.

Not only do they look “sharp”, as if they are made from glass shards, they will look great on your mobile device. She is offering these beautiful pieces up as wallpaper for iPhone, iPad 2 and iPad 3. How can you resist?

Amazing Star Trek Into Darkness Concept Art From Nathan Schroeder

Nathan Schroeder’s website has all kinds of Epic environmental concept art from the movie. Nathan was a member of the art department on both of the rebooted Trek movies. On his site you will find galleries for several of the films he has worked on. It is an impressive list that includes the X-Men films, Pirates of the Caribbean, an even a Battlestar Galactica movie that never happened.

Here you will see some of the scenic design for Star Trek Into Darkness. He worked on Qo’noS, Earth, and the Nibiru volcano. Check out some of these gorgeous settings.
