The Secret Life of Heroes

The Secret Life of Heroes
We have in our minds certain iconic images of our favorite heroes. And illustrator Greg Guillemin is challenging the way we look at our heroes by making them more human. His ongoing series, “The Secret Life of Heroes”, shows us what these heroes do when they aren’t busting bad guys and saving the world.

They are just like you and me. For instance, Spider-Man eats a hamburger, itches his crotch and plays video games. Captain America laments the fact that his clothing is made in China. And Superman takes Viagra. Check out his website for more cool stuff.

Cosmetologist Transforms People Into Comic Book Heroes and Villains

Cosmetologist Transforms People Into Comic Book Heroes and Villains
Makeup artists can do amazing things in the movies, but they are never expected to use only makeup to create superheroes. In the movies they have costumes to help, but if you want to make it look like these heroes have just jumped off of the comic book page. makeup only is the way to go.

Much like Lianne Moseley, cosmetologist Argenis Pinal uses makeup to transform himself and others into amazing looking comic book superheroes and villains. Check out his Instagram, Facebook, and his website to see more.

1982 DC Comics Style Guide

1982 DC Comics Style Guide
The 1982 DC Comics Style Guide is now online and complete. This is some really stunning artwork. Those were the days. I wish we saw more of this style today. The style guide features many character designs, color guides and model sheets. These were all used for marketing and licensing and they also served as a reference for the artists. You have probably seen some of these images on merchandise. Dick Giordano inked all of the figures in the original guide, while Todd Klein inked all of the logos and many of the backgrounds seen in the guide. I love them all, but this era Batman really looks awesome.

Check out the entire Style Guide. Dick Giordano inked all of the figures in the original guide, while he himself inked all of the logos and many of the backgrounds.

Classic Hollywood Stars in Superhero Movies

Classic Hollywood Stars in Superhero Movies
Today superhero films are everywhere. Most films being made are superhero films. That wasn’t always the case. So what if these superhero movies were made in the 1940s or ’50s? That what this series from artist Joe Phillips explores. Clark Gable as Iron Man? Cary Grant as Batman?

If you like the old time Hollywood take on these flicks, you can purchase these directly from Phillips on his Facebook page. I especially love the Marilyn Monroe piece.

DC Superheroes Reimagined As Samurai Warriors
Artist Brittney takes Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and Robin and puts them in feudal Japan, in a cool samurai style. These images are great and you can check out more on her blog. You are going to love all of her work. I say work, but it is clearly fun.

I just love her style and the colors are so vibrant. These scenes really come to life before your eyes.
