Great (Ridley) Scott! Pris Blade Runner Cosplay

Great (Ridley) Scott! This visually arresting Pris cosplay from the sci-fi classic Blade Runner is from Merrypranxter. Much like Daryl Hannah in the movie, I could watch MerryPranxter pose and dance around all day, acting silly. The photographer is Natasha Day.

Merrypranxter says, “I love cosplaying Pris because it just makes me feel like a bad-ass. Which is pretty much the OPPOSITE of me in real life. When i put her on at conventions I always have the best time!” You and everyone watching. Great job. You nailed it.

25¢ Wonders: Our Favorite Pop Culture Characters On Kiddie Rides

Some of the art we feature here is mindblowing, inspiring, just beautiful, or just plain fun. I would say that the 25¢ Wonders series from artist Patrick Ballesteros hits all of these notes. These illustrations bring back the fun of being a kid while we watch some of our favorite characters as kids themselves, riding kiddie rides.

They also evoke a nice sense of childhood innocence and wonder. You can’t help but smile as you peek into these scenes, watching characters that we know so well, as cute kids, and wishing we could see the scene unfold, just to see what comes next.

Concept Art For The Forbidden Planet Remake That Never Happened

You may not be aware, but back in 1995, Irvin Kershner tried to make a remake of Forbidden Planet. Sadly, the project never happened, but Ralph McQuarrie, John Eaves, Mark McCreery, Syd Mead, and Stan Winston were already doing some work on it. We can take a look at McQuarrie and Mead’s work here.

The McQuarrie concept art has immense sets where the humans are like ants and the Mead art shows off the technology that we would have seen. From what we can see here, this would have been quite the epic. We can only dream about how amazing this stuff would have looked on screen.

I could get absorbed in this for hours. As with Star Wars, Ralph McQuarrie was instrumental in shaping Battlestar Galactica. Most know that he was involved with Star Wars, but many don’t realize the influence he had with Battlestar.

Your Favorite TV Shows And Movies As Children’s Books

A few weeks ago Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles hosted Storytime, a show of Joey Spiotto’s humorous work. These are kids books that are worthy of any kid’s book collection. Popular movies and TV shows turned into kids books. You can buy prints here.

I especially love the Borg book and the Planet Of The Apes book. Well, I love them all. Can’t pick a favorite. These books would put kids to sleep and fill their heads with all sorts of wonderful adventures. Amazing dreams would follow.

Alien Makeup Designs from Guardians Of The Galaxy

These are some really nice behind the scenes photos that show off different alien makeup designs created for Guardians of the Galaxy. You have to love the retro look and feel of this movie and admire all of the practical effects that were used to pull it off. These designs have so much detail!

Dave White, the special effects makeup designer helped to create the designs for Gamora, Drax, Nebula, Yondu, Korath, and other aliens. They are all done practically and are free from modern alien design influences. The end results in the film were simply amazing. You’ll find more at the link.

Men In Black Ambassador Replica

People love the men in Black movies because of the amazing creature design. The aliens that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones encounter are truly out of this world and are truly alien. Remember the little alien creature that lived inside the head of Ambassador Rosenberg? Well, look at the amazing replica that the sculptors at Elite Creature Collectibles are working on.

To say that this is super detailed is the understatement of the year. It really is a breathtaking replica that is a work of art. The prototype sculpt was shown off at this year’s SDCC, but Elite Creature has not set a release date yet. Or a price. I’ll be saving my pennies and waiting eagerly.

Doctor Who: The Lifespan Of Each Doctor

This graph may not tell you how many years each of the Doctors has been traipsing through time and space, but it will tell you exactly how long every single Doctor was on the air for.

Obviously Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor wins this competition. William Hartnell’s original Doctor comes in at second place. It’s a handy and fun chart if you want to know exactly how long each Doctor was on the air. And of course you do, because we can’t get enough of Doctor Who.

A Day in the Life of Boba Fett

Behance member Scott Francisco is exploring the blurring of the lines between fantasy and reality in this photography series titled A Day in the Life of a Pop Culture Icon.

Here we see a typical day for Boba Fett. And guess what? It’s pretty much just like a typical day in your life or mine. Of course, some things are made harder by wearing that Mandalorian helmet. Like shaving for example. It’s pretty mundane stuff really, but a fun set of photos nonetheless. I’m guessing that this is his less than adventurous life after the encounter with the Sarlacc Pit.
