Star Trek Into Darkness Red Planet , Spacesuits And Klingon Concept Art

Check out these pieces of concept art from Star Trek Into Darkness. The first few are of the red planet in the Nibiru system from concept artist Andrea Dopaso, which are simply stunning and look much better than what we saw on screen. The rest are production sketches from concept artists Keith Christensen, Constantine Sekeris and Neville Page.

The Klingon suit designs are especially interesting and there’s a concept design of the Klingon planet and some different versions of the Starfleet space suits.

Star Wars Imperial Propaganda Posters

The Empire wants you to join the fight and crush the rebel resistance. So naturally they are using propaganda to recruit new soldiers. These posters come from the beautiful Star Wars: Imperial Handbook Deluxe Edition, which is on sale now.

Here’s the official description:

The Empire has taken hold of the galaxy. Soon, with the completion of the Death Star, its control will be absolute. In preparation for this Imperial expansion, high-ranking officials from each branch of the Imperial military have set down tactical guidelines and procedures as well as collected mission reports and classified documents for all newly ascending commanders. In the wake of the Battle of Endor, members of the Rebel Alliance intercepted this top-secret instructional manual and have circulated it among their own commanders, who have added notes and commentary in the margins.

Charming Doctor Who GIFs

These charming and whimsical Doctor Who GIFs from all 12 Doctors(Sorry once again War Doctor, but you have been left out) come from Beijing, China based artist Mengying Wang.

They are simple and adorable. Scrolling through them all is almost like seeing these versions have mini existences and watching them regenerate one after the other. On a side note, please give love to the War Doctor people! He is every bit as important as the others.

Sci-Fi And Horror Movie Icons Re-imagined As Manga Characters

This is a fun series of fan art that features several sci-fi and horror movie characters re-imagined as manga characters. These iconic characters are all cute and adorable, but can still lay the smack down if they need to. These fine illustrations were done by Matsuda Yuusuke.

I would love to see a cartoon series based on these. Especially the Robocop one. Also featured are Terminator, Alien, Predator, Pinhead, and Hellboy. On a side note, I don’t think I have ever seen the Terminator portrayed with boobs before.

Star Trek’s CGI Pioneers

These days we all know about computer generated imagery. In fact many of us think that the Star Wars prequels had way too much of it and suffered because of this. Star Trek has always been a pioneer of the art-form and as such has helped shape the technology behind it. These videos are from a 1987 Open University documentary on computer aided design, highlighting some early examples of CGI and how it was used in Star Trek.

Both are well worth your time. It’s a fascinating look back at effects that we take for granted today. The first video looks at Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. The second video looks at some of the work done on the Genesis Device sequence from Star Trek II.

The Great Martian War: CGI Martians Invade WWI Footage

This video clip will make you believe that the Martians invaded during WWI. It is that good. Of course we all know that that never happened. Last year the History channel aired a mockumentary about the “Great Martian War” of 1913-1917. The videos of the battles are the best part, which places War of the Worlds type aliens in real footage from World War I.

Directed by Christian Johnson and Steve Maher. This is a fun take on alternate history.
