Mike Seymour of FX Guide and Wired takes a look at the special effects used in director Justin Lin‘s Star Trek Beyond. He covers everything from the digital construction of the Starship Enterprise, to the extraterrestrials themselves. This movie had some amazing effects, so this is a fun watch. They certainly put a lot of work into this one.
C-3PO may not be as sexy as Maria, but he totally works in this parody art based on Fritz Lang’s Metropolis poster. Maybe this was a George “Fritz” Lucas production. It is fittingly called Droidopolis.
If you are a fan of the original Terminator movies, you’ll love what Sideshow has done with this Terminator Endoskeleton Maquette. This highly detailed recreation of the T-800 features polystone and premium grade ABS plastic elements to get those amazing details that you would expect to find in a machine created by other machines. This maquette is made up of over 100 pieces and even comes with a nameplate for more display options. You look at this T-800 and you can practically hear the theme music.
Let me just say right from the get go, there are several errors in this infographic from Costumesupercenter.com. Like the fact that they never wore the uniforms shown in Star Trek: The Motion Picture for instance. There are several other errors as well, but it is still a fun look at the uniforms spanning the series and movies.
Blade Runner 2 is one of the most highly anticipated sequels right now. We know a little bit about the film, but most of it remains a mystery. It will take place in Los Angeles and the setting is still bleak. We also know that the movie will feature strange weather. Basically, snow, rain, it’s all toxic.
Think about that as you check out this concept art from the film. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for this movie.

These dark and magnificent pieces of art are from Studio Ronin. Both the original trilogy and The Force Awakens are represented here. These images turn Star Wars into a dark and brooding fantasy. The dark side is strong with these. They remind me of a lot of the art that was on fantasy books way back when.

The 1938 radio broadcast of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds sent listeners everywhere into a panic. This clip is from what would have likely been an amazing epic sci-fi film. Sadly,a film that never was.
Stop-motion animation master Harryhausen brought Wells’ vision to life. A slimy Martian with bulging eyes, a slobbering beaked mouth and “Gorgon groups of tentacles”. You can check it out in this 16 mm test reel. You can see right away that this would have been another Ray Harryhausen masterpiece. Sadly the project went in another direction. Oh, if only we could have seen Ray’s vision.
