Director James Gunn recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo from Guardians of the Galaxy that shows a very early design for Star-Lord’s helmet. This is what he had to say:
“#fbf Very early version of the Star-Lord mask. I wanted the eyes to be big, as if he was perpetually surprised, not your regular hero. We might have overdone it a bit here. #GotG#flashbackfriday”
It’s always fun to see the evolution of things like this. Below is a piece of concept art that this helmet design was based on. It’s not bad, but I’m glad they made all of the minor improvements that they did. The final version really works well.

Artist Alain Bellino created this awesome Darth Vader helmet assemblage using antique bronze ornaments and silverware. This is an elegant Darth Vader for a more civilized age. It must have taken a lot of time and effort to complete and the finished piece makes it completely worth it.

UK based artist Bea Toa created this cool illustration that depicts Darth Vader’s helmet after R2-D2 borrowed it and gave it a makeover. The droid has a nice sense of humor and a great eye for art. R2’s work here actually gives us a look into the droid’s mind and it’s weird.
He obviously wants to be BFFs with Vader and even writes that he misses Vader and asks him to “Come back to us”. While at the same time, the droid gets his digs in with “Luke is a better pilot” and calling him a traitor. I guess R2 is one messed up droid. It’s awesome.
TronLids lives up to it’s name. That’s where you can find this cool replica of Flynn’s helmet from Tron. This is the original 1982 style. This helmet is nicely detailed and fully painted so that it glows and is illuminated beautifully.
It took a over a year to make it and they used the exact same cooper sk-2000 hockey helmet that was used as the original prop in the film. They come painted and ready to light up. Awesome!
