Nerdscapes: Your Inner Nerd Meets Thrift Store Art

Etsy seller Nerdscapes is all about just that. Nerdscapes. The seller takes thrift store art and modifies each piece into nerd works of art that never existed before, but that we all want to own and admire.

The Blue Boy and Pink Lady paintings become a Sandperson and Admiral Ackbar. How about AT-ATs in the Alps? The TARDIS and Daleks in a landscape? A painting of the original Star Trek Crew, with Wesley Crusher dreaming that he is Kirk? There’s something for everyone here and it is all fun. Even Firefly in the old west.

Hero-Glyphics Hieroglyph Style Art

If the ancient Egyptians worshiped Comic Book characters and Sc-Fi icons the way we do, this is exactly what their tombs would look like. Illustrator Josh Ln created this series of geeky hieroglyph style art and very appropriately calls it “Hero-glyphics”.

Best of all, you don’t need to be an Indiana Jones type to decipher them. I mean it’s pretty obvious that Han shot first and that Kirk battled the Gorn. If you like what you see, you can even buy prints from his Society6 store.

Miniature LEGO Sci-Fi Vehicles

This ongoing LEGO chibi micro contest is fun. Not to mention all kinds of cute and creative. Below are just some of the neat Sci-Fi vehicles that LEGO fanatics have created in chibi style. These are all done in micro scale. Some of the entries get really creative.

I’m always impressed at what people can make with LEGO. You’ll see several famous vehicles that you recognize from TV and movies, just much much smaller and much much cuter. I especially like that Landspeeder.

Serenity Ship 1:250 Scale Cutaway Replica

Serenity is such a beautiful ship. The detail on this Cutaway Replica is amazing and it has over 200 hand-painted parts. This 1:250 scale replica is as accurate as can be had, since it was made using the original 3-D effects from the Firefly TV series. It is a limited edition of just 2,000 pieces!

You can even lift up the upper hull sections, which attach to the lower half of the model using magnets. Then you can marvel at the cockpit, main corridor and galley furnished with chairs, consoles, rugs and storage lockers. All of those sets are reproduced inside. It measures 13-inches from nose to tail, 8 1/2-inches from wingtip to wingtip, and 3 1/2-inches from bottom of the cargo bay to the peak of the cockpit. This is a must own for Firefly fans.

Spaceship Skeletal Surveys: The Anatomy Of Sci-Fi Starships

Kansas City, Missouri artist Josh Ln has a fun and creative anatomical illustration series of famous spaceships from science fiction. The series is titled Spaceship Skeletal Surveys and features ships from SciFi films and TV shows. Now you can see what they would look like if they had a skeletal structure.

We have the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars, the Enterprise from Star Trek, the TARDIS from Doctor Who, Firefly and a viper from Battlestar Galactica, all showing off their anatomy. You can order prints and all kinds of apparel with these five designs printed on them from Josh’s Society6 store.

25¢ Wonders: Our Favorite Pop Culture Characters On Kiddie Rides

Some of the art we feature here is mindblowing, inspiring, just beautiful, or just plain fun. I would say that the 25¢ Wonders series from artist Patrick Ballesteros hits all of these notes. These illustrations bring back the fun of being a kid while we watch some of our favorite characters as kids themselves, riding kiddie rides.

They also evoke a nice sense of childhood innocence and wonder. You can’t help but smile as you peek into these scenes, watching characters that we know so well, as cute kids, and wishing we could see the scene unfold, just to see what comes next.
