mad max fury road concept art
We can’t get enough Mad Max right now. We may have a long wait until the next movie, so in the meantime, check out this collection of amazing concept art created for the movie by artist Peter Pound. When you aren’t going back and watching all of the movies anyway.

You can see right away that this art is from early on in the process. A lot changed by the time the movie was released. It’s fascinating to see what they were thinking so early on. Some of the stuff is frastically different, while other things were only altered slightly. You can check out more on his site.

Prometheus And Alien Edited Together

https://vimeo.com/129318944
I know that a lot of people think that Prometheus was a sub-par movie, whether it is a prequel to Alien or not. I found it to be a worthy prequel to the classic, but different strokes and all that. For those of you who didn’t like the movie, maybe you’ll like it better with both movies edited together.

Editor Job Willins edited both movies together to highlight the good things in Prometheus and give it some closer ties to Alien. The film uses a parallel narrative, set 30 years apart and is titled Derelict. It really does a great job of setting an even scarier atmosphere in black and white. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but it’s a brilliant idea and very creepy.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Official Teaser #2

Lucasfilm and J.J. Abrams are taking us back to a galaxy far, far away. And man am I stoked! This is a stunning trailer and it was well worth the wait. I am so relived that JJ Abrams did not try to change it like he did with Star Trek. Everything seems prefect. Might we actually get the perfect Star Wars movie? It sure looks like it.

Star Wars: Invasion Los Angeles

This short film blows me away. As a kid I used to envision Star wars battles taking place all around me where I lived and it was a lot like this awesome video. Except this takes place in LA, not in my head. Filmmaker Kaipo Jones created this amazing special effects video.

A massive Star Wars Imperial army is invading Los Angeles. There are AT-AT Walkers, TIE Fighters, Imperial Star Destroyers, AT-STs and more. They can be seen flying over major landmarks as they blast down military jets and just generally cause havoc, destroying everything.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Concept Art Shows Lord Tantalus

Storyboard and concept artist Thomas Nelson updated his website with some storyboards and artwork that he created for Guardians of the Galaxy. One of the characters in this concept art is Lord Tantalus, a character that did not appear in the film. He was originally in the script though.

Gunn was probably saving Lord Tantalus for the sequel since his backstory is fairly complex. Some of the other characters here have similar, but different looks than we saw in the film.

Fan-Made Star Wars TIE Fighter Short Film

This amazing seven-and-a-half-minute short created by a fan took over four years to complete, It should should help tide you over until the new Star Wars movies arrive. It was created by Paul Michael Johnson and animated in the style of 80s anime series’ like Mobile Suit Gundam.

The soundtrack is very 80s too and many of the sound effects from the classic TIE Fighter series of games from LucasArts were used as well. He did an awesome job.

Bicentennial Man Robotics Effects Images

The images below are from Dave Barkovitz’s Flickr stream. Dave Barkovitz was a fabricator on the movie for Steve Johnson’s XFX, Inc. I love this movie. It holds a special place in my heart. It manages to capture that certain something from Asimov’s robot books and Andrew Martin was played perfectly by Robin Williams.

An incredible amount of detail went into Andrew’s robot body, as seen in these images. I really love the style they went for. Not too over the top. Minimal in many respects, but with some amazing details, especially on the inside of the body that makes it real to the viewer.

Star Wars Costumes Trailer

A new book highlights some of the most gorgeous costume work from the original Star Wars trilogy. In Star Wars Costumes: The Original Trilogy, Brandon Alinger has compiled a history of every major costume from the first three Star Wars films. Think about that for a moment. Think about all of the charcters that were on screen in that trilogy. This was not an easy task.

Check out the trailer for the book here as well as some of the pages. This is going to be a fun read.

An Art Show Tribute to Stanley Kubrick

Even though Stanley Kubrick did not exclusively make Sci-Fi films, he did as much as anyone for the genre. More than most in fact. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a masterpiece. So it is no wonder that he is being celebrated at San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery.

Check out some of the art that celebrates the great director’s work below. The man continues to inspire all of these years later. These images are amazing. If you are in the area, check out the show and be blown away.
