At Last – The Three-Hour Extended Cut of Superman: The Movie Is Coming

At Last - The Three-Hour Extended Cut of Superman The Movie Is Coming
As many of you know, the original Richard Donner Superman movie received a bumper cut—nearly 40 minutes longer—when it aired on TV. And now this cut of the movie is finally being released on Blu-ray. I have been waiting for this one for decades. IMO Superman and Superman II are the greatest superhero movies ever made. And this cut of the original is the absolute best.

In February of 1982, ABC’s two-night broadcast of Superman: The Movie was a three-hour-long version of the movie that featured footage never seen before, giving us more Krypton, more Smallville, more everything. The full 188-minute version that aired over those two February nights has never been officially released, until now. Warner Bros.’ Archive Collection has plans for a brand-new remaster of the extended cut as part of a two film collection that will also include Donner’s definitive director’s cut of the film from 2000. (I’m not a fan of that one, but I’ll gladly buy in to get this extended version.) Aside from that, it will include new special features, including screen tests and documentaries looking at the creation of the movie. It is coming later this year. I can’t wait.

Fan-Made Film Adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns

Fan-Made Film Adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns
I really enjoyed Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, and like so many fans I always wondered what a movie version would be like. We’ve seen some elements worked into movies here and there, but never a completely faithful live-action version. Well, filmmaker Wyatt Weed has made his own film adaptation of the 1986 comic. Surprisingly, it is pretty entertaining and well done. He gets so much right here. He made the film with only $2500 over 24 days, over 17 months. It just goes to show you that a movie with heart beats a big budget film any day. Give this guy a meeting with Warner Bros.
