Cosmic Comics: A Geek Odyssey

Cosmic Comics A Geek Odyssey
This series titled “Cosmic Comics” takes some of our favorite Marvel characters and puts them against the backdrop of the cosmos. These already powerful superheroes look even more like Gods when floating through space. Several of them look as if they are in a reflective state of mind, as if contemplating the mere mortals of far off Earth.

This art is simple, yet powerful. It’s like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Marvel got together for a new series.

Captain America Pocket Watch

Captain America Pocket Watch
Pocket Watches may not be as popular as they once were, but that’s okay, since Captain America is from another era. He wouldn’t look out of place wearing this beautiful Captain America Pocket Watch. His version would probably be made of the same material as his shield though. This would be perfect for a cosplay accessory or just to carry with you so you can show your devotion to Steve Rogers. Wow. Cap’s red, white and blue really looks great on a watch.

Amazing Heroes Wave 1 Action Figures

Amazing Heroes Wave 1 Action Figures
In case you missed it when it was being funded on Kickstarter, Fresh Monkey Fiction’s Amazing Heroes are now available for pre-order. I bet they fly off the shelves too so don’t hesitate.

These action figures is based on Golden Age heroes. They are bright and colorful and are modeled after the classic Mattel figures. The first wave features: The Black Terror, Silver Streak, Golden Age Daredevil, Stardust, Captain Action, Green Turtle, Champion of Mars and The Blank Slate. I love retro figures like this. They did a great job on all of the details.

Amazing Art Prints By Tim Shumate

Amazing Art Prints By Tim Shumate
I’m really enjoying Tim Shumate’s geeky art. In his Etsy shop you can find art that covers everything from Gremlins, to X-Men, superheroes and more. The Gizmo piece that says “Hang in there” cracked me up. Below are just a few of our favorites, but you can find much more at his shop.

A lot of them are done in a cool tattoo-like pin-up style. If only I had enough room for all of these in my home. This is some really awesome work. I especially like those X-Ladies.

Batman ’89 Concept Art

Batman ’89 Concept Art
Here is a project that I would have loved to see come alive. Sadly, I don’t think it will happen anytime soon. With the success of Batman ’66, Joe Quinones and Kate Leth wanted to revisit another famous era from Batman’s past. The Tim Burton era. Hence the name Batman ’89. DC Comics foolishly passed on this miniseries pitch. It’s really too bad that we never got to see this, because it sounds great.

Quinones shared some details and proof-of-concept art from the proposal and it looks awesome.

“Our story would have picked up the threads left by Tim Burton’s Batman Returns,” Quinones explains on his blog. “We would have seen the return of Selina Kyle/ Catwoman as well as introductions to ‘Burton-verse’ versions of Robin, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. It also would have showcased the turn of Billy Dee Williams’ Harvey Dent into Two-Face.”

Disney Princesses As X-Men

Disney Princesses As X-Men
If you love the X-Men and also love Disney Princesses, but can’t decide which you love more, this is for you. Both have been lovingly mashed up by San Francisco-based artist Diego Gómez. These are just awesome. I can see the potential for an X-Men/Disney crossover. Nah. But this series is fun and beautiful. They make you look at these Princesses in a whole new way.

Superheroes And Villains In Street Clothes

Superheroes And Villains In Street Clothes
It’s not every day that we get to see our favorite heroes and villains in street clothes rather than their usual outfits. Artist Mingjue Helen Chen created this lineup of DC superheroes and villains so we could see what they look like when they dress a bit more like we do. It would be fun to see some of these as cosplay too. Fantastic art.

Check out Catwoman, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Supergirl and Poison Ivy here then go check out Mingjue Helen Chen’s website for more cool stuff.
