Adult coloring books are a big thing now and that means that some of our favorite properties are showing up as coloring books now. The 50th anniversary is a big year for Star Trek Mega Bloks. They are offering several TOS sets and models of ships. The first wave of these sets is now complete, now that the largest is finally available. And wow, it was worth the wait. You can pre-order it right now and it will be released in July.
The USS Enterprise set has 3,098 pieces. The model is 85cm long assembled. It has light-up nacelles and two figurines of Kirk and Spock. If that isn’t enough, the display base is a miniature of the ship’s dedication plaque. This is a serious Mega Bloks Starship.
The third installment of the Star Wars Topps books is coming in August. We covered the previous books here. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – The Original Topps Trading Card Series Volume Three covers the final installment of George Lucas’s original Star Wars trilogy. All 220 cards and 55 stickers are reprinted in one deluxe volume. This book features the fronts and backs of each card, including character profiles and puzzles featuring all of your favorite scenes from Return of the Jedi. You also get four bonus trading cards, rare promotional images, and an introduction and commentary by Gary Gerani. I love these books and plan to get this one too.
Hot Wheels recently released a set of six cars in their Pop Culture range which feature TOS characters on retro vehicles. You can find them on Amazon right now. The whole gang is here and these cars are fun collectibles with some pretty cool graphics. I think I may have to collect all of these.
At last we can own the 12th Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. I have to say that this is my favorite sonic in years. I liked 11’s but it just always seemed too bulky and busy. Whereas 10’s was way too plain. This one is just right.
It will be released in mid June, but you can pre-order it now. This replica features static, flashing & chase light modes as well as four sound FX. It lights up blue and green and those lights rotate like the on screen version. I just love the color they choose too. I’ll be getting one of these for sure. One day they will make one that actually opens doors.
This Vulcan Travel Guide looks like a fun book. It will be available in July 2016 and was written by Star Trek novelist Dayton Ward. It has a ton of great artwork too. Below are some preview pages. Inside this book you will find all kinds of beautiful landscapes, maps, infographics, and more. It will make you want to visit Spock’s home planet for sure. Here is what you didn’t even know you were missing. A Transformers book where the robots actually transform. Matthew Reinhart and Emiliano Santalucia have created one excellent book here. It celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Transformers toy line. It features pop-up paper versions of Autobots and Decepticons. Many of them completely transform. How cool is that?
Transformers: The Ultimate Pop-Up Universe is the book we all wish we had as kids, but it is here now to awaken the child inside. You can check out a video review below.

I’m one of these guys who can get really lost in books like this. I just love every little detail that you can learn about the world of Star Trek. As the name implies The Star Trek Encyclopedia, Revised and Expanded Edition: A Reference Guide to the Future is an updated edition with even more “stuff”.
Michael and Denise Okuda literally cover every moment from the four Star Trek series and eight films. Every planet ever visited, every food ingested, every outfit worn, and every featured character. You would be hard pressed to find much that is missing from these books. As far as I’m concerned this is a must for your Sci-Fi library.
This is going to be a special treat for Star Trek fans like me who grew up watching the original. To Boldly Go: Rare Photos from the TOS Soundstage gives us a look at many amazing behind the scenes moments from the original show. This book has hundreds of pictures of the sets, models, actors and work that went on behind the scenes.

The latest Star Trek parody book is coming our way in July from Insight Editions. It’s called the Redshirt’s Little Book of Doom and it looks cute and funny. It is written by Robb Pearlman and illustrated by Anna-Maria Jung. Within it’s pages you will find lovely full page artwork chronicling the troubled life of a Star Trek red shirt, as he has his share of alien encounters, time with crew-mates, and other everyday problems. You have to love that cover art!
