Blackmarket Bakery, based in Southern California, have designed gingerbread masterpieces for the holiday season for the last decade or so. This year it was the USS Discovery ship from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Complete with the monkey/monolith scene below. It’s truly awesome and I bet, very tasty too.

The star of 2001: A Space Odessey is clearly the Star Child. Believe it or not, the original prop is still out there and it looks pretty good after all of these years. These days it is part of a traveling Stanley Kubrick Exhibition. Check out Atlas Obscura for all kinds of fun facts about the Star Child. It is well worth your time.
Hallmark is still celebrating the 50th anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Yesterday we told you about the plush Dave Bowman toy they unveiled and now they have a neat Hallmark HAL 9000 Christmas Ornament. The red eye glows and it says phrases from the movie. Although we don’t yet know which phrases those are. This is a must for any geek Christmas tree.

Fifty years ago, the science fiction film, 2001: A Space Odyssey premiered in theaters and we would never be the same. Sadly, there’s a lack of cool 2001 collectibles, but Hallmark is doing their part to give us something adorable. Dave Bowman’s character has been turned into one of the most adorable plush toys I’ve ever seen. I kinda wish they had released a plush monolith too, but Dave Bowman is pretty darn cute.
Clear a space on your wall for this replica of HAL 9000 that includes a real AI. Master Replicas Group has not given us a price yet for its new 2001 Interactive HAL Computer prop replica, but I want one. This replica will have working displays, functional voice recognition, and Amazon Alexa integration so it can control things in your home. We all saw how that turned out in the movie, so hopefully, things will go better in your home. I can’t wait to learn more about this replica, but the price is likely out of my range.

This stunning art print from Dan Mumford based on 2001: A Space Odyssey is part of a series of 12 prints created for a show at Gallery 1988 in LA. It is absolutely gorgeous, depicting many of the visual elements that we loved from the film. It is aptly titled “I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that.” It is an 18″x24″ 5 color print in a limited edition of 50. You can buy it at the Gallery1988 store. I just love those colors. He really did a great job on this one. Get this one while you can folks.
