Alex Solis has created an art series that shows familiar pop culture characters in disguise as other pop culture characters. Below are just a few to whet your appetite. He has many more on his Instagram page. I’m not sure why, but there is something very appealing about seeing these characters inside of other characters. I really like that Gizmo is hiding inside of a Furby. I knew it all along.
I guess we know what the BB stands for in BB-8. It must mean Bling Bling. That is one shiny droid. Definitely the one I’m looking for. No Jedi mind trick can sway me. However, the price certainly puts a damper on my enthusiasm. Disney Consumer Products and Kay Jewelers have teamed up to create a stunning new interpretation of the new droid in gold and diamonds.
It took 600 hours to create and it has been valued at $135,000. This luxury version of the droid is just 4.25″ high and weighs just over 1.5 lbs. Made from 18-carat yellow gold, this piece has around 860 diamonds which amounts to 18 carats. This little and expensive droid will be displayed at the Force 4 Fashion exhibit in New York and auctioned off for charity later this month. Even R2-D2 wasn’t this valuable when he had the Death Star plans.

Last month, artist Nathan Sawaya’s full-sized Batmobile made entirely of LEGO bricks was the centerpiece for an art exhibit at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia called The Art of the Brick: DC Comics, and now we can show you more cool stuff that Sawaya created for the event. He made 120 original art pieces and below are just some highlights. They are all great, but I really love his version of The Flash.
It is amazing what you can do with LEGO. It’s one thing to build a little LEGO house and another to build full sized statues.

Shanghai based artist Eddie Liu created this imaginative series that imagines what some DC superheroes might look like if they grew old and were ready for retirement. We know them as young heroes in their prime, but in real life, everyone ages. It’s fascinating seeing such iconic heroes in a new light. These heroes may be old, but just look at them. They can still take care of business.
I think I prefer seeing our heroes as older rather than seeing them laid to rest.
Artist Jason Ratliff has created a new series of 10 posters that really captures the magic of a child’s imagination. It shows kids and their favorite superheroes as their shadows. How many of us have pictured ourselves as heroes when we were kids? Our imagination is a powerful thing and this series captures it perfectly.

Artist Alain Bellino created this awesome Darth Vader helmet assemblage using antique bronze ornaments and silverware. This is an elegant Darth Vader for a more civilized age. It must have taken a lot of time and effort to complete and the finished piece makes it completely worth it.
