Star Wars: Reimagined Makes Star Wars New Again

Star Wars Reimagined Makes Star Wars New Again

Marcelo Laborda
Star wars is such a part of our lives and such a part of our culture, that it is hard to see it in a new light. Well, this art manages to make Star wars feel fresh again and that’s no easy feat. A group of artists over on CG+, over the past few months have been submitting some really nice entries in a competition called Star Wars: Reimagined.

Their mission was simply to “to re-imagine your favorite character, creature or vehicle from the Star Wars universe.” Below are just some of our favorites. You can hit up the link to check out more. There were some amazing entries in this competition.

Disney Princesses As X-Men

Disney Princesses As X-Men
If you love the X-Men and also love Disney Princesses, but can’t decide which you love more, this is for you. Both have been lovingly mashed up by San Francisco-based artist Diego Gómez. These are just awesome. I can see the potential for an X-Men/Disney crossover. Nah. But this series is fun and beautiful. They make you look at these Princesses in a whole new way.

Superheroes And Villains In Street Clothes

Superheroes And Villains In Street Clothes
It’s not every day that we get to see our favorite heroes and villains in street clothes rather than their usual outfits. Artist Mingjue Helen Chen created this lineup of DC superheroes and villains so we could see what they look like when they dress a bit more like we do. It would be fun to see some of these as cosplay too. Fantastic art.

Check out Catwoman, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Supergirl and Poison Ivy here then go check out Mingjue Helen Chen’s website for more cool stuff.

Post Apocalyptic Batman Photography

Post Apocalyptic Batman Photography
Travis Durden’s aim with these images is to illustrate that ‘the natural life cycle of myths and idols involves their destruction’. Every hero has a downfall. So the french artist created these digital compositions that show the eventual demise of Batman, in collaboration with several other photographers whose images document abandoned buildings around the world. Durden adds elements from Batman’s life into each frame.

It puts Batman in a post apocalyptic world where he is the guardian of essentially nothing. These images are haunting, sad and eerie. You thought he was brooding before! These images make me uneasy. Batman needs a thriving city around him.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Images, Concept Art, And Behind The Scenes Photos

Batman v Superman Dawn Of Justice Images, Concept Art, And Behind The Scenes Photos
The more I see of this movie, the more excited I get. We don’t have a long wait now before Batman v Superman hits theaters. Empire Magazine has released some new photos from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on their iPad app, and DCEU Facts shared these on Twitter. I don’t think we have seen most of these.

The movie is less than two months away. I hope it is as amazing as it looks. We see Bruce Wayne visiting a bunch of dead loved ones, Wonder Woman deflecting something with her bracers, Superman in control of the Bat Signal and much more. There’s a lot here to digest. Love the atmosphere on that concept art too.

Papercraft 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Papercraft 11th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver
If you are looking for a fun project, why not make your own Sonic Screwdrivers based on the 11th Doctor’s version? Check out the one that Barbara Ribeiro made with scrapbooking paper. I’d say she got all of the details spot on. She definitely deserves some Jammie Dodgers as a reward.

Now she has a paper version that hopefully opens more than just paper doors. The light and the extension part even functions, though this version is silent.

Star Wars Needle Felted Wampa Head

Star Wars Needle Felted Wampa Head
It’s not easy to hunt down a Wampa and get it’s head for a trophy. First you have to trudge through the snow and ice of the planet Hoth on your Tauntaun and hope you find one. Then you have to hope you get it before it gets you and drags you back to it’s cave for lunch. There is a much better way to get a Wampa head for your home.

Just buy this nicely detailed needle felted version. It measures 12″ X 12″ and would look perfect over the fireplace. Scary, but perfect.
