Superheroes In Famous Paintings

Great works of art stand the test of time and are instantly recognizable. Some of them are worth millions of dollars. Others are priceless. How can we improve these classic masterpieces? Add some superheroes of course. That;s always a good answer.

People are doing just that at Worth1000. You can see a bunch of entries here. I think you will agree that these fine works of art are much better now and just as classic.

Steampunk Star Trek Tricorder

Deviantart users Arsenal-Best created this cool steampunk tricorder to go with their Star Trek: The Next Generation cosplay uniforms. It is made up of a brass metal shell with genuine burl wood veneer. It looks pretty awesome and I have to say it would fit in nicely with the Kirk era Star Trek universe.

Nice work. I would love to see more Star Trek gadgets get this steampunk treatment. Imagine what they could do with a phaser.

Star Trek The Next Generation Captain Picard’s Jacket

Get ready to do the Picard maneuver with this amazing replica of Captain Picard’s jacket. This jacket is authentically patterned and color-matched after a screen-used jacket from a private collection. It features a satin interior lining, full body front zipper closure, and an inner pocket.

It was designed by Robert Blackman with direct input from Patrick Stewart himself. This jacket was intended to make the Captain stand out from the rest of the crew. It is made from polyester, cotton, and faux suede. It is a near perfect match for the jacket used throughout seasons five through seven. Make it so and add it to your collection today.

Star Wars User Interface Motion Graphics

If you enjoy a good user interface, you’ll like this video. Noel Rubin created the computer interfaces in Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace and Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith. Here he shows off some of his UI creations. I really love the whole art of creating UI and how it can elevate and enhance movies. Sometimes they can almost make or break a movie.

Here you will see Anakin Skywalker’s podracer, the Trade Federation Battleship, Naboo Queenship, the R2-D2 Naboo Palace hologram and more. This is a really nice look at a lot of the UI designs seen in the Star Wars prequels.

Bicentennial Man Robotics Effects Images

The images below are from Dave Barkovitz’s Flickr stream. Dave Barkovitz was a fabricator on the movie for Steve Johnson’s XFX, Inc. I love this movie. It holds a special place in my heart. It manages to capture that certain something from Asimov’s robot books and Andrew Martin was played perfectly by Robin Williams.

An incredible amount of detail went into Andrew’s robot body, as seen in these images. I really love the style they went for. Not too over the top. Minimal in many respects, but with some amazing details, especially on the inside of the body that makes it real to the viewer.

Full Size Silicone Bishop Replica From Aliens

Fans of the Aliens Franchise will want to save up some money, because this Full Size Silicone Bishop Replica From Aliens is pretty awesome. Gross, but awesome. From what I remember of that scene, this replica looks dead on. Who could forget Lance Henriksen right after being ripped apart by the Queen Alien? The body is made of fiberglass while the head and arms are made from high end FX quality silicone.

The eyes are even matched to Lance’s eye color. The hair too. It will cost you $3,000. and for what it’s worth, Lance Henriksen himself seems to approve. The artist who created this piece displayed the initial version at a show called Monsterpalooza in 2014 where Lance was in attendance. You can see him posing with it in the last picture.

Hipster Superheroes

Hipster Superheroes. I guess that is either a good thing or a bad thing depending if you are a Hipster or not. This fun series comes from artist Phillip Sevy and it includes both Marvel & DC Superheroes as hipsters.

One thing is for sure. These are not the heroes that we know and love. This is a pretty drastic change for all of them. I never thought that I would see Batman as a hipster.

Star Wars Costumes Trailer

A new book highlights some of the most gorgeous costume work from the original Star Wars trilogy. In Star Wars Costumes: The Original Trilogy, Brandon Alinger has compiled a history of every major costume from the first three Star Wars films. Think about that for a moment. Think about all of the charcters that were on screen in that trilogy. This was not an easy task.

Check out the trailer for the book here as well as some of the pages. This is going to be a fun read.
