What if Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the crew of The Original Series were transported to another dimension and met their counterparts from the recent JJ Abrams Star Trek films? It would be a lot like the classic “Mirror, Mirror” episode from the classic series. How would William Shatner’s Kirk interact with Chris Pine’s Kirk? Would they be friends? Enemies? Artist Inserts Real-Life Enterprise Model Into Modern Star Trek

In recent years the Enterprise has gone digital, but the original version of Star Trek’s flagship was a real-life miniature model. So, what happens when you replace the digital Enterprise of New Trek with the older model?

Illustrator and concept artist Nick Acosta shows us. He took some photos of the original model which is currently being restored at the Smithsonian and composited those images into newer film shots. The results are nothing short of amazing. It just goes to show you that physical props are more realistic. If it is lit correctly, it beats digital every time.

How Star Trek: The Original Series Would Have Looked In Cinematic Widescreen

Can you even imagine what it would have been like if Star Trek: The Original Series had aired in cinematic widescreen? No. No, you can’t imagine the beauty and scope of such a thing. It’s too mindblowing for our brains to handle. It is absolutely gorgeous.

The first Star Trek series aired in the 4×3 aspect television ratio, like the rest of the shows of the era. Sadly, that doesn’t hold up well in our current age of widescreen and HD. So basically, we are missing out. However, one amazing fan, Nick Acosta, has used some HD screen caps to put together some widescreen shots. There is a sampling below. They are simply stunning. Now we just need Star Trek remastered so we can enjoy it in cinematic style.
