Tie-X – Tie Fighter Design

Tie-X - Tie Fighter Design
Tie-X is Jason Battersby’s personal TIE Fighter design project. It took 4 months to create. His goal was to design a ship that fits into the Star Wars galaxy while also having his own design influences. I say job well done. This ship looks stunning. You can see many shots of it in action, chasing the Millennium Falcon, in the docking bay and on patrol. The design is just perfect.

Jurassic World VFX Reel

I love seeing how much work goes into making sci-fi and fantasy movies look real. It’s like learning how the magician does the magic trick. I am more in awe of how the trick is done than what it looks like on stage. This Jurassic World VFX reel offers a great look at what went into making those dinosaurs so real. The recipe for success is in large part just grown-ups pretending to be dinosaurs. Best job ever! It’s more than that of course, but that is what stands out in this VFX reel and it is really fun to watch.

Inside The Visual Effects Of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Here is a fun video of Wired taking a look at the Visual Effects used in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is a fascinating look at how Industrial Light & Magic created those complex action sequences, breathtaking environments, and characters. It packs a lot of info into it’s three minute run time. It’s always fun to see how the magic is done. It doesn’t ruin the magician’s trick, it makes us even more in awe.

Guardians of the Galaxy Visual Effects Breakdown

Guardians of the Galaxy showed that Space Operas can still be fun and epic. If you enjoyed the movie, you’ll like these videos. Visual effects and animation studio Framestore has released a few videos that break down the stunning visual effects work.

The Knowhere Reel details the decapitated head of an ancient Celestial that we visited in the film. The second video is all about Rocket Raccoon.

Man Of Steel Behind-The-Scenes Special Effects Video

Say what you want about Man of Steel. Even if you didn’t like it, you have to admit that the movie looked great. The movie had some great visual effects. In this behind-the-scenes video, the visual effects team talk about how they came up with one of the most striking elements of Kryptonian technology. The “liquid geo”.

This gray metallic liquid can reshape and form into anything. It works really well in the movie, helping make Krypton technology even more alien. It’s fascinating stuff and worth a watch.

Kid Vader Has All The Cool Toys

When we think about Darth Vader, we usually picture him doing something sinister. Like Force Choking someone or blowing up a planet. That’s why it’s so striking and fun to see images like this. This put a smile on my face. This CGI photography is titled Kid Vader. It was a personal project from London based photographer Parker Biley.

Here we see Darth Vader as a young kid, playing with all of his toys. Not sure if he is putting that LEGO Yoda together with the Force, or tearing it down, but I love it.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past VFX Breakdown Featuring Mystique, Magneto And Quicksilver

This stunning VFX breakdown from Digital Domain, who worked on X-Men: Days of Future Past is a must watch. A lot of hard work goes into turning Jennifer Lawrence into Mystique. Sometimes it takes a whole other actor. The video shows the models and effects used for the scenes and much more.

It is amazing just how much work it takes to take the two actors and transform the scene. Oh and all of those amazing details at RFK stadium? That took a lot of work too and it looked great. Also check out Quicksilver’s VFX video. Great stuff. They are both very fascinating to watch.
