Nerdscapes: Your Inner Nerd Meets Thrift Store Art

Etsy seller Nerdscapes is all about just that. Nerdscapes. The seller takes thrift store art and modifies each piece into nerd works of art that never existed before, but that we all want to own and admire.

The Blue Boy and Pink Lady paintings become a Sandperson and Admiral Ackbar. How about AT-ATs in the Alps? The TARDIS and Daleks in a landscape? A painting of the original Star Trek Crew, with Wesley Crusher dreaming that he is Kirk? There’s something for everyone here and it is all fun. Even Firefly in the old west.

Thrift Store Paintings Get Geeky Makeovers

I’ve seen many artists who do “Piggyback Art”, but few hold my attention the way David Irvine of the Gnarled Branch does. He makes whimsical furniture, Gothic sculptures and what he calls “Re-Directed Paintings”. Irvine finds old or discarded thrift store paintings and brings them back to life, adding all kinds of geeky pop culture characters. Below are just a few examples.
