Doctor Who – Thirteenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Doctor Who - Thirteenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver
With every new Doctor these days, we get a new sonic screwdriver. It’s kinda a gimmick that I don’t mind when they make it cool looking, but I’m not feeling this odd looking new version. I’ll keep an open mind until I see it on screen though. It is different, that’s for sure. Anyway, this replica measures 7.4″ long and has lights and sounds. Just press the button for authentic sound effects, glowing red and orange lights, or to activate the glowing rotating crystal. Check it out over at Hot Topic.

Cool Doctor Who Coat of Arms Art

Doctor Who Coat of Arms
If the Doctor had a coat of arms, it would look like this one. This cool Doctor Who Coat of Arms art is the work of Daniel Clark. I can see this displayed somewhere in the TARDIS for sure. It features the 10th and 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdrivers over a shield with the TARDIS inside. Above it reads The Oncoming Storm. I would totally wear this as a T-shirt or hang it up in my room. Check out the rest of Daniel’s art at the link.

Doctor Who: 12th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Doctor Who 12th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver
At last we can own the 12th Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. I have to say that this is my favorite sonic in years. I liked 11’s but it just always seemed too bulky and busy. Whereas 10’s was way too plain. This one is just right.

It will be released in mid June, but you can pre-order it now. This replica features static, flashing & chase light modes as well as four sound FX. It lights up blue and green and those lights rotate like the on screen version. I just love the color they choose too. I’ll be getting one of these for sure. One day they will make one that actually opens doors.

Cool Doctor Who Pixel Art

Cool Doctor Who Pixel Art
Buenos Aires, Argentina based artist In Rainhead created this cool Doctor Who pixel art featuring some of our favorite elements from the show. There’s the sonic screwdriver, a cyberman, a Dalek and the TARDIS. These put me in the mood to play an old Doctor Who video game. It’s too bad that my choices are severely limited. We need more Doctor Who video games. These are cute.

Papercraft 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Papercraft 11th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver
If you are looking for a fun project, why not make your own Sonic Screwdrivers based on the 11th Doctor’s version? Check out the one that Barbara Ribeiro made with scrapbooking paper. I’d say she got all of the details spot on. She definitely deserves some Jammie Dodgers as a reward.

Now she has a paper version that hopefully opens more than just paper doors. The light and the extension part even functions, though this version is silent.

Doctor Who’s New Sonic Screwdriver

Now that the Doctor’s new Sonic Screwdriver has made its debut during the show’s season finale, we can get an even better look at it. I have to say, I really am in love with this design. It isn’t as chunky as the 11th Doctor’s Sonic, which I love, and it has some super cool lights. It’s also TARDIS blue. It is the perfect blend of old fashioned and modern. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get my hands on a replica!

Even the suits are Who themed, with the sonic screwdriver, the Seal of Rassilon, a dalek, and a weeping angel. This is an awesome deck of playing cards. They make a great gift for fans of Doctor Who. They make any card game better.

The Evolution of the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

If you are a fan of the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver, you can get this print by David Wildish from Society 6. It shows the Doctor’s favorite gadget in the order they were used in the show.

I think the main thing to learn from this cool print is that over time the sonic has become more complicated in design and if you go by the show, it also does more these days and is certainly used more often. Good old Peter Davison used it maybe once before his got fried, because he didn’t want his Doctor to overuse it.
