At last we have a Star Trek: Discovery teaser. I have my doubts about this project, but I am hopeful we get a good Star Trek show. There are several things to like about this teaser, but it’s all just a tease of course, giving us just enough to get us excited. We get glimpses of what looks like some alien armor, the uniforms, a few starships and more.
We had heard rumors that there was a new X-Men series coming and that it would take place in the X-Men cinematic universe. Well, it turns out that it was true. In fact, Fox has officially ordered the pilot for the series from producer Bryan Singer, and they’ve hired Matt Nix (Burn Notice) to write as well as produce.
Variety says that the pilot “will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.” So obviously the pilot will serve as an origin story for those involved.
Fox had already picked up the upcoming series Legion, which looks pretty darn good. So this would be there second. Are they headed the way of the CW? That would be awesome. I am a firm believer that these properties work much better on television. I can’t wait to see where this goes. Although I am kind of done with Singer.
The new Star Trek series now has a name. Star Trek: Discovery. That is also the name of the ship. Designation NCC-1031. I love that it is based on concept art that the legendary Ralph McQuarrie did for the first Trek motion picture. I’m not sure how I feel about this design yet though. Kinda love it, kinda hate it. The back section is reminiscent of an old Klingon ship. I like parts of the design. Like the red bits in front of the nacelles. The saucer is okay. The rest is… I just can’t see how they justify that this design would fit into Star Trek. The more I see it, the more I realize that that back end is pretty awful. Maybe it’s not the final design. Right? Maybe it’s a Klingon/Federation crew? It’s the only way this makes sense. I can get behind this, but it has to make sense.
Artist Carlos Fabián Villa is creating an X-Men character series that is inspired by the classic 1990 animated series. He has finished Rogue, Jean Grey, Sabertooth, and Cyclops. Check out the included gifs for each one which shows the process of his work from the first sketch to the finished product. I like these a lot as have fond memories of that animated X-show. I hope he does a bunch more.

These beautiful minimal and retro Star Wars posters from POTAPOTA are perfect, conveying so much with so little. Kind of like Yoda actually. This unique poster series was designed with the best quotes from the movies and most memorable parts of the films and there are several versions to choose from. All look amazing. Several of these would look so good on my office walls… I think I have to get some for myself. So long money.
