Geeky Black Velvet Paintings

Way back when, people used to make fun of velvet paintings. Rightly so. They were usually tacky things that featured Elvis or a wolf howling at the moon. That was before velvet paintings started getting geeky.

At Gallery1988 in Los Angeles these beautiful paintings done on black velvet were recently on display. The show was titled, “Cult of Personality: a Velvet Art Show from Bruce White”. The painter has taken many sci fi characters and painted them on velvet. Everything from Star wars to Star Trek, to Blade Runner and beyond. They all look amazing.

R2-D2 PS4 Laptop Mod

This is the droid laptop I’ve been looking for. Don’t try to tell me otherwise with your fancy Jedi mind tricks. Ed Zarick created this awesome R2-D2 PS4 laptop. He used 3D printed replicas of Artoo’s parts. It even sounds just like R2-D2 thanks to an Adafruit WaveShield.

It is a more streamlined PS4 from a more civilized age. I love all of the detailing. It is just perfect. Check out the video below.

First Look At New Alien From Star Trek Beyond

I make no secret of the fact that these Star Trek reboot films are pretty sucky IMO. Having said that, the latest video for the Omaze charity contest gives us a first glimpse at a new alien from the film and I have to admit it looks pretty cool.

Most Star Trek aliens are fairly uninspired humanoids so I was happy to see this unique alien show up. Maybe there is hope that this next movie will be something special? Check out the video below.

Leeloo From The Fifth Element Cosplay

Every once in a while a Sci-Fi movie arrives and becomes an instant classic. The Fifth Element was one of those movies. It had everything. Humor, a cool plot, Bruce Willis, neat aliens and of course Leeloo. Cosplayer Tanuki Tinka Asai looks perfect as Leeloo from The Fifth Element.

You nailed it. No multipass required. Zorg and Korben Dallas are here too. These photos are just magnificent. Great stuff. I would totally trust her to save the galaxy.
