The Evolution Of Batman’s Gotham City

This is a fun and fascinating video that takes a look at the evolution of Batman’s home, Gotham City. Evan Puschak (The Nerdwriter) explores the city in this seven-minute video essay. This is well worth your time. I don’t think I have ever seen an examination of Gotham like this one. It offers a lot of food for thought if you are a Batman fan.

Gotham is as much a character as Batman himself and just as fascinating, with a history just as rich as the Caped Crusader’s. After all, they are forever intertwined. Did Gotham create Batman? Did Batman create the hellish out of control version of Gotham? Maybe the real question is if they can save each other.

Amazing Venues created these fun tickets to the greatest fictional events. Maybe you want to attend Daniel-san’s victory at the All-Valley Karate Tournament. Or spend an incredible evening at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance from Back to the Future.

You are going to need tickets. Well, here they are. Now we can imagine what these tickets would look like, even if you can’t experience the events in real life. I think I’ll pass on the Hunger Games and Joffrey’s Stag Do. Some events are better unattended. I’ll just stay home when it comes to those.

This compilation from Digg takes a look at the history of aliens in film. It starts with 1902’s A Trip to the Moon and goes all the way to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. What a long strange trip it’s been.

It’s not meant to be complete so don’t get your panties in a bunch. It’s just a cool look at the phenomenon in general. It is a great overview of how film technology has evolved as well. It’s really fascinating to watch the evolution of aliens on film because it tells us more about ourselves.

But can you name all of the movies shown here? This is an amazing look back at some of the things they have accomplished. Four decades in just sixty seconds.

Yes George Lucas gave us the Star Wars prequels, but just remember, he also gave us ILM. The man influenced movies more than anyone else and that legacy continues to this day.

Artist Inserts Real-Life Enterprise Model Into Modern Star Trek

In recent years the Enterprise has gone digital, but the original version of Star Trek’s flagship was a real-life miniature model. So, what happens when you replace the digital Enterprise of New Trek with the older model?

Illustrator and concept artist Nick Acosta shows us. He took some photos of the original model which is currently being restored at the Smithsonian and composited those images into newer film shots. The results are nothing short of amazing. It just goes to show you that physical props are more realistic. If it is lit correctly, it beats digital every time.

Ralph McQuarrie Concept Art For The Original Star Wars Trilogy

I absolutely love Ralph McQuarrie’s concept art from Star Wars and thanks to redditor Join_You_In_The_Sun I am in heaven looking at 100 images of Ralph McQuarrie’s art from the original trilogy.

Below are some of my favorites. I just can’t get enough of his vision of the Star Wars universe. Almost every single painting is epic and they really visually steered Star Wars into what it became on screen. Love these!
