Superheroes Are Taking Over Hoerle-Guggenheim

Superheroes are now in Gotham where they belong. Well, at least some of them call it their hometown. They will be hanging out at the Hoerle-Guggenheim Gallery from March 20 – April 8, 2015 at 527 West 23rd Street in New York City.

Jason Dussault is a Vancouver and New York based artist who focuses on combining traditional forms of mosaic with pop-culture characters. This is the artist’s debut solo exhibition in New York and if these images are anything to go by, it will be well worth checking out.

Guardians of the Galaxy Visual Effects Breakdown

Guardians of the Galaxy showed that Space Operas can still be fun and epic. If you enjoyed the movie, you’ll like these videos. Visual effects and animation studio Framestore has released a few videos that break down the stunning visual effects work.

The Knowhere Reel details the decapitated head of an ancient Celestial that we visited in the film. The second video is all about Rocket Raccoon.

Hipster Superheroes

Hipster Superheroes. I guess that is either a good thing or a bad thing depending if you are a Hipster or not. This fun series comes from artist Phillip Sevy and it includes both Marvel & DC Superheroes as hipsters.

One thing is for sure. These are not the heroes that we know and love. This is a pretty drastic change for all of them. I never thought that I would see Batman as a hipster.

LEGO Minifig Tattoos

I don’t know about you, but I’m not manly enough to get a tattoo. However, if I ever man up and get one, it would probably be something awesome like the tattoos below. These excellent tattoos of LEGO Minifigs were made by Polish artist Max Pniewski from Bristol, England.

The artist obviously loves to ink LEGO Minifigs and he does an excellent job. Everything from Breaking Bad to Star Wars and superheroes. I love the quality of his work. Maybe it’s time I just walk in and get a tattoo. Nah. I’ll just admire these.

Funny Marvel Superhero Action Figure Photography

Some people just play with their action figures, while others make an art form out of playing with their toys. Photographer Hrjoe has taken this wonderful series of photos that capture our favorite Marvel superhero action figures in funny situations.

It’s like watching secret behind the scenes footage of their lives together. Or a Marvel sitcom. You won’t believe some of the situations they get into.

Tim Burton Style Avengers

Tim Burton gave us such classics as Edward Scissorhands, the 1989 Batman movie, Beetlejuice and many more, but have you ever wondered what he could have done with The Avengers? These sketches from artist Xenia Rassolova give us a pretty good idea. They all look spot on if you ask me. That’s totally Tim Burton style.

As much as I like some of Burton’s classic movies, I’m glad he didn’t touch The Avengers. This is still a cool concept though. It’s always nice to see a new take on familiar characters that we know.

Marvel And DC Comics Characters Mashed Together

Artist Eric Guzman did a fantastic job with this series. What would happen if you merged the characters from DC Comics and Marvel together? Well, what you get is a new universe filled with brand new yet familiar characters like The Joking Goblin, Deadshot the Hunter, Darewing, MysteRiddle, Banenom, Dr. Octofreeze, Poison Scorpion, Captain Krypton, and The Scavenger. I am really digging these new characters.

It’s too bad this could never happen in the pages of either company’s comic books. I would love to see more.

52 Years Of Spider-Man’s Mask

Everybody knows Spider-Man and we usually associate him with the classic red and blue costume with the webbing. But fans know that Spidey’s outfit has gone through some changes over the years. Some are good, others are, well, maybe best forgotten.

This compilation of Spidey’s costumes over the years comes from artist Salvador Anguiano. If you want this as a poster, he has a limited run available for sale here. We tend to think that heroes stay the same, but most of them have changed a lot over the years.

You’re Hired!: The Amazing Spinnen-Weber Resume Cover

This amazing resume and infographic in one was created by Behance user and art director John Andrew Spinnenweber. With a name like that, this resume cover really makes a lot of sense. I would hire him in a heartbeat.

You can see by this cover that he has all of the right qualifications. He spins a mean web too. Nice work John, but why can you never get me some images of that Spinnen-Weber. That’s what we want! That’s news! Now get back out there with that camera.
