French luxury item manufacturer S.T. Dupont has created an expensive handcrafted Star Wars chess set to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the saga. It is sure to blow fans away, even if it is out of most of our budgets. Let the conflict between the light side and the dark side begin. The round chess board is made of black obsidian with a polished and matte finish and the Empire and Rebellion pieces are sculpted to resemble characters like Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca. Each piece has gold design elements as well.
The Empire pieces are nephrite jade from British Columbia while the Rebellion pieces are natural rock crystal quartz. Each is hand-carved and engraved with detail. The gold-plated rim of the board resembles the Death Star’s exterior as well. If that isn’t enough, the drawer pulls on the board feature the symbols of the two sides. It will cost you about $128,000 if you must have it.

It took 600 hours to create and it has been valued at $135,000. This luxury version of the droid is just 4.25″ high and weighs just over 1.5 lbs. Made from 18-carat yellow gold, this piece has around 860 diamonds which amounts to 18 carats. This little and expensive droid will be displayed at the Force 4 Fashion exhibit in New York and auctioned off for charity later this month. Even R2-D2 wasn’t this valuable when he had the Death Star plans.
