VFX For Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes featured some amazing visual effects. Those monkeys were so realistic it was scary. But that doesn’t happen by magic. There are scores of talented people behind the scenes making it a reality.

Weta Digital has created this amazing behind-the-scenes featurette that highlights all of the CGI work that went into making it feel so natural and real. Andy Serkis is a big factor in why this worked so well too. When you have great CGI with such great acting, you have something really special.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes: From Concept Art To The Screen

It’s always fascinating to see original concept art and then compare it to what showed up on screen. I love seeing how this art translates into the finished movie. It’s interesting to see what they changed or left out, what they tweaked just a little, or which scenes they kept mostly the same. Also which were enhanced by practical effects.

Lucky for us, Production Designer James Chinlund has posted a bunch of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes concept art, giving us a look at how the art translates into actual sets and finished scenes. It is a great look at the film making process.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Concept Art

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes will be hitting theaters next week, so we are all eager to see more of this world after the first installment. You might say we are going ape over it. To satisfy our Simian craving until then, we have some concept art from this movie as well as Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

These fantastic images come from a new art book that chronicles the design of both movies. It is titled Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: The Art of the Films. The book is full of the production photography and concept art behind both films. It is a must buy for hardcore fans of the movies.
