Neill Blomkamp Was Working on an Alien Movie

Neill Blomkamp working on an Alien movie? I like that idea. Can you even imagine what such a movie would look like? Well, just check out these images. The other day he posted some concept art from an Alien project that he was working on.

Apparently he was not working on this for the studio officially, but just for kicks. Now I just want to see this movie come to life. It would have been a wild ride, that’s for sure. Excuse me while I stare at these images for a few hours and dream of what could have been.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark Concept Art

Joe Johnston was a concept artist and character designer for Lucasfilm. He is responsible for the design of Boba Fett and many other cool things that we love. Guess what else? The Ark of the Covenant too. Here is some concept art from him from Steven Spielberg’s 1981 classic The Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It is pretty stunning. The version we saw in the film was really something, but this one just seems more biblical and alien to me. Can you imagine it all in gold and shining in the desert sun?

This Stop-Motion Animated Short Features a Marshmallow Ghostbuster

Ghostbusters was a pretty groundbreaking movie, considering the fact that it was a comedy. Years later we still can’t get enough of it. I don’t hold out much hope that the new rebooted movie will be anywhere nearly as good as the original, but that’s okay, because we have cool movies like this stop-motion animation from Bodega Studios.

It features only a single Ghostbuster. Venkman. Uh, make that Venkmallow. Slimer also makes an appearance and you’ll never guess who is playing him. This short is awesome, but the problem is, now that I’ve seen it, I want more. When can I see more marshmallow adventures?

Doctor Who Series 8 Concept Art Is Dark And Creepy

Even though Doctor Who is technically a kid’s show,(I know. I don’t buy it either) they often try to push the envelope when dealing with scary imagery and terrifying concepts. It can be a hard balancing act, scaring viewers, while not scaring them away. Series 8 had mummies, cyborg zombies and other scary stuff. Just realize that what we saw on screen could have been so much more terrifying.

This concept art from Millennium FX comes from the Radio Times and it shows us just how much scarier season 8 could have been. If kids do indeed hide behind the sofa while watching Doctor Who, some of this stuff may have had them hiding behind locked doors.

Superhero Dissections

London UK based artist James Northcote is not a super villain. No really. He just likes to dissect superheroes in his series titled Hero dissections. I guess he is just curious about what makes them tick. We all are. It’s just that most of us don’t go slicing them up to find out.

I want to tell James to be careful and that this is how villains always start out, but to be honest I’m kind of scared of James. Just kidding James. You gave me a chuckle with these illustrations.

The Adorable Evolution Of Catwoman

What I find most interesting about artist Jeff Victor’s illustrated Evolution of Catwoman from movies and TV is that in the 2000’s she was wearing a lot less clothes. I never really noticed since I have tried hard to forget Halle Berry’s version of the classic character.

These illustrations are absolutely adorable though and give us a look at how Selina Kyle has changed over the years. It’s not nearly as drastic as some other heroes. For the most part they haven’t changed her all that much.

The Ladies of Battlestar Galactica

Megan Lara’s series Ladies of Battlestar Galactica (For Quantum Mechanix) shows the women from the show in the style of various classic works of art. For instance Starbuck is drawn in the style of Polish Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka. Sharon “Athena” Agathon is in the Art Nouveau style of Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.

They all look amazing and dare I say it? It paints them all in a new light. It is the perfect combination of geeky and classy.
