Chappie VFX Breakdown Reel


Fans of Chappie will enjoy this. Image Engine is the special effects company that worked on Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie. This is their VFX breakdown reel that shows how they transformed Sharlto Copley into Chappie himself. It isn’t as easy or straightforward as you might think.

Copley had to be taken out of each frame of the film that he was in. It’s a pain but, his being there allowed the rest of the cast to react to his movements, so it was totally worth it. I think it worked pretty well in this movie. You’ll want to watch it all the way through to get all of the cool details.

Do you love Firefly? How about trading cards? Well, I have some great news for you. Upper Deck is putting together a set of Firefly trading cards. Robert Jimenez is one of the artists that are involved in the project. Check out these stunning cards of Joss Whedon’s series as pulp novel covers. They are all kinds of shiny.

When Upper Deck was bringing on artists to draw up some Firefly cards, Jimenez used the opportunity to bring together two of his passions: Firefly and pulp art. I love these images. Upper Deck did too, so they asked for some propaganda-type posters for the cards. The results are pretty awesome. I would love to have them as art pieces. Jimenez will be offering some for sale in the future!
